How To Stay Healthy All Year Long

Actors & models never know when their next gig is around the corner.  So often, I’ve had a call from my agent 8PM Monday night for a 6AM shoot Tuesday.  As performers, we are always expected to be ready to go and hit the ground running.  We often work long days, long hours, in conditions that aren’t climate controlled or safe for that matter.  On top of your training, something you should always be doing as an actor or model is taking care of your health.  If you get sick, you’re likely unable to work.  That’s a missed gig, a missed resume credit, a missed networking opportunity, and missed money.  Here are a few things I do to make sure my health is taken care of all year long!

Get Enough Sleep

I know, I know – you’ve heard your mom say it your entire life.  But she’s right!  If you don’t get enough sleep, you WILL get sick.  Make sure that every night you possibly can you are getting enough sleep for you.  If you need 8-9 hours, get it.  If you only need 5-6 hours, still get it.  You’re hustling and need your energy.  GET ENOUGH SLEEP.

Drink Your Water

Again Sophie!?  Yes, again and always.  Keeping yourself hydrated gives you nicer skin, lubricated vocal cords, more energy, and yes it keeps you from getting sick.  My rule of thumb is to drink 1 gallon of water per 100 pounds you weigh each and every day.  Stay thirsty my friends.

My Super Immunity Morning Cocktail

I’m sure you’ve all heard of apple cider vinegar and it’s health benefits … but have you ever mixed it with Emergen-C?  You should.  Every morning I take 1 packet of Emergen-C orange and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, shake it over ice with some water and slam it back.  It gives you a ton of zinc & vitamin C, balances your pH and accelerates weight loss.  Also for any of you interested in voiceover work, I always drink one of these before/during my VO session.

Remove Any Unneeded Stress

Obviously this is far easier said than done.  Stress makes you sick so the best thing to do is take any unnecessary, superfluous stress and get rid of it.  This could be a situation that is out of your control or a toxic person in your life.  Rid yourself of these things or the worry of them and get rid of that stress.
